Why are my Stacks non-transferable?

We airdropped Stacks (STX), Blockstack’s native asset, to eligible Wallet users in January 2020 as part of the Blockchain.com Airdrop Program. Blockstack is building an ecosystem of decentralized applications (dApps), the next step towards building Web 3.0, the future of the internet. By receiving Stacks through our airdrop, you’ve reserved your ticket to Web 3.0 and the keys to more than 300 dApps on Blockstack’s network – and ones not even created yet!

Due to regulatory reasons (read more about this here), your airdropped Stacks cannot be transferred for one year. The transfer lock is imposed by Blockstack on the protocol level. Don’t worry - your Stacks are safe and backed up by your 12-word backup phrase. In time, there will be even more dApps to use and ways to own your own data and identity with Stacks.

In the meantime, we will be integrating full support for Stacks (STX) across all of Blockchain.com’s products, including the Wallet, the explorer, OTC and institutional lending desks, custody solutions, and the Exchange later in 2021.

If you want to hold more Stacks, or use them to interact with dApps, you will be able to do that within the Wallet soon.
