Understanding Your Blockchain Wallet – Why It Matters
Losing access to your wallet can be stressful. However, your recovery options depend on the type of wallet you're trying regain access to —a Blockchain.com Account (custodial) or a DeFi Wallet (non-custodial).
1. DeFi Wallet (Non-Custodial) – You Are in Full Control
- This is a self-managed wallet—Blockchain.com cannot access or recover it.
- You must have your 12-word Recovery Phrase to restore access.
- Lost both your password and 12-word Recovery Phrase? Unfortunately, your wallet and the funds in that wallet are permanently lost.
2. Blockchain.com Account (Custodial) – We Can Help You Recover
- This is a secure, identity-verified account where Blockchain.com manages your custodial funds.
- No 12-word Recovery Phrase needed—you can reset your password if you lose access.
🔹 Why is this important? If you reset your password, your custodial account can be recovered, but your DeFi Wallet will not be linked anymore. If you don’t have your original Recovery Phrase, your DeFi funds will be lost.

🔹 Use this method only if you need access to your custodial funds and do NOT have your Recovery Phrase.
