If your account balance looks different than you expected, there are several common explanations. This article will help you identify what happened and what to do next.
1. The value of your crypto has changed
Cryptocurrency prices change constantly, sometimes significantly within a single day. If you hold crypto assets, the value displayed in your account reflects the current market price at the time you are viewing it.
For example, if you purchased Bitcoin when the price was higher, your current balance in USD or GBP may now show a lower value even though you still hold the same amount of Bitcoin.
What to check: Look at your asset quantity (e.g. how many BTC you hold) rather than just the fiat value. If the quantity has not changed, your crypto is still there. Price movements are a normal part of how crypto markets work.
2. Your funds are in a holding period
If you recently bought crypto using a bank card, ACH transfer, or another payment method, your funds may be subject to a temporary holding period. During this time your balance is visible but some actions may be restricted.
Common holding periods:
- ACH purchases: up to 7 days
- Card purchases: duration shown in your wallet at the time of purchase
- Passive Rewards Account transfers: 7 days from the date of transfer
What to check: Open your wallet and look for a holding period notice next to the relevant asset. It will show you exactly when your funds will be fully available.
3. You may be looking at the wrong account section
Blockchain.com has several distinct account areas. Funds in one section will not appear in another, so it is easy to look in the wrong place.
The main account types are:
- Trading Account: Your custodial account for buying, selling, and swapping crypto.
- Wallet: Your non-custodial, self-managed wallet. Blockchain.com cannot access or manage these funds.
- Passive / Active Rewards Account: Funds earning rewards. These have their own holding and withdrawal rules.
What to check: Navigate through each section of your account to confirm where your funds are held. A balance visible in your Trading Account will not show in your Wallet, and vice versa.
4. A recent transaction you may have forgotten
It is worth reviewing your full transaction history before assuming funds are missing. Common transactions that can cause a balance to look lower include:
- A swap or trade that converted one asset to another
- A withdrawal or transfer to an external wallet
- A subscription, fee, or network gas charge
- A Rewards Account transfer
What to check: Go to your transaction history and filter by the last 30 days. Look for any activity you do not immediately recognise and cross-reference dates with when you first noticed the change.
5. A display or sync issue
Occasionally, balances may not display correctly due to a temporary sync delay between the app and the blockchain network. This is rare and usually resolves on its own within a few minutes.
Steps to try:
- Refresh or reload the app or browser page
- Log out and log back in
- Clear your browser cache if using the web platform
- Check whether you are using the latest version of the Blockchain.com app
Important: A display issue does not affect your actual funds. Your crypto assets remain on the blockchain regardless of what the interface shows.
