Prediction Markets allow you to trade on the expected outcome of real-world events.
Instead of trading the price movement of an asset, you trade contracts tied to specific outcomes, such as whether an event will or will not happen.
Prediction Markets on Blockchain are powered by Polymarket, a third-party prediction market platform.
Blockchain provides the interface only and does not operate Polymarket, create markets, determine outcomes, execute transactions, or act as a counterparty.
Prediction Markets are currently available in the Blockchain mobile apps on iOS, Android and WEB.
How Prediction Markets work
Prediction Markets are made up of markets, outcomes, and shares.
Each market asks a question about a future event. For example, a market may ask whether a specific event will happen by a certain date.
Each market has one or more possible outcomes. Users can buy or sell shares in those outcomes.
The price of an outcome share may move over time based on market activity, available liquidity, and how likely participants believe that outcome is to happen.
Example
A market asks: “Will Team A win the final?”
The available outcomes may be:
- Yes
- No
If you believe Team A will win, you may choose to buy “Yes” shares.
If the market resolves in favor of “Yes”, eligible “Yes” shares may be redeemable based on the rules of the market.
If the market resolves in favor of “No”, “Yes” shares may lose value.
Market resolution
Prediction Markets are resolved based on the rules and resolution process of the third-party market provider.
Blockchain does not determine market outcomes, control market resolution, or decide whether a market resolves as “Yes”, “No”, or any other outcome.
Before trading, make sure you understand the market question, the possible outcomes, the resolution criteria, and the risks.
Important risks
Prediction Markets involve risk.
You may lose some or all of the funds used to buy outcome shares.
Market prices can change quickly, liquidity may vary, and outcomes may not resolve as expected.
Before trading, make sure you understand how the market works, how it may resolve, and that Blockchain provides the interface only.
